Truly - Fast Stories... From Kid Coma

By John Bitzer

They've been on Sub Pop. They've played Lollapalooza. Their pedigree is Seattle royalty (Soundgarden bassist, Screaming Trees drummer). So what.

This could have been another megaflop (Hater, anyone?), but they got it right. They've morphed early Pink Floyd (maybe too consciously), Jim Carroll-inspired poetry, in-their-sleep Soundgarden riffing, White Album chord changes, even leftover Northwest manic depression (too much coffee) into a headrush racket. And best of all, underneath the swirly surface is a bleary-eyed vision, an about-to-burst chemical imbalance, a piercing yowwwwllll. This, friends, is a friggin' statement.
