Truly
Organizes Go-Go's Tribute; Records with Jim Carroll By Tina Johnson
The Seattle band Truly is keeping pretty busy these days. Not only are they
gearing up to tour in support of their recently released album, Feeling You
Up, on Thick Records, but they are also looking forward to being featured on
a Go-Go's tribute record, as well as having the act's frontman, Robert Roth,
appear on a new Jim Carroll album.
Truly is expected to cover the female group's biggest pop hit "Our Lips Are
Sealed" for the not yet titled album, which is expected to feature the Frogs
and Chainsaw Kittens, among others, according to Roth. However, the project
is in its early stages, so nothing is official yet.
But in the meantime, Roth tells us that he's been involved with the Carroll
project since 1994. The two were brought together during the period surrounding
the film The Basketball Diaries, by Carroll's ex-wife and manager Rosemary Carroll,
who also manages Truly.
"Jim Carroll and I co-wrote a couple of songs that are going to be on an album
he's putting out later this year on Mercury," says Roth. "It's going to be half
music and half poetry. I co-wrote two songs with him, and I think they're using
one of the recordings that we did, so I'll be playing several instruments on
that song." The song in which Roth plays guitar, piano, organ, and mellotron
has yet to be titled, although the lyrics have already been completed. The other
song he co-wrote with Carroll is called "Falling Down Laughing." The album is
tentatively due by the end of the year on Mercury.
Truly is also expected to kick off a U.S. tour in May, with possible co-headlining
act Triplefastaction, and then head off to Europe for some dates.
